Sometimes as I am preparing to lead a ceremony with other people I feel lonely. That feeling may remain until I arrive at the place where the ceremony will be held, when I can connect with those unseen ones who will guide, accompany, and witness me and the other two-leggeds who will participate. Then the loneliness disappears and I understand that I am in community, I am with my people.

Often the loneliness disappears beforehand, at the moment I turn my attention to the ceremony. I feel myself moving into a different consciousness that is larger than my everyday state. As I do that, I sense around me the energies and spirits who are already there. I know I’ve been disconnected from them until I pay attention, until I shift into that larger awareness.

It doesn’t matter whether they are human or not. They are all my peeps.
